Consistency Is Key to Attracting Luck for Your Business

Are You Ready to Be a ‘Lucky’ Business Owner?

There’s a lot of luck in success. I mean, we’ve all heard sayings like, “Right place, right time”, and “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”, and “Life is like a box of chocolates”. Haven’t we?

Then there’s this saying: “You make your own luck”. This kind of explains how some entrepreneurs seem to be born lucky. The question is, how do you make your own luck?

What is luck, anyway?

Luck certainly plays a part in success. For example, we don’t determine many things that shape our lives: your place of birth, your name, or your date of birth. All random factors in success, according to studies published in Scientific American, which concludes that:

‘The results of this elucidating simulation, which dovetail with a growing number of studies based on real-world data, strongly suggest that luck and opportunity play an underappreciated role in determining the final level of individual success.’

The author of this piece also underlines that he has found that a certain number of traits ‘do significantly explain differences in success’. These traits include:

  • Passion

  • Perseverance

  • Imagination

  • Intellectual curiosity

  • Openness to experience

Luck is chance. A chance meeting. A chance event. Right time, right place.

Consistency is key to success

Let’s say that you are a big fan of Tom Brady. You really want a selfie with him. Do you rely on luck? Of course not. You hang out where he hangs out. In hotel lobbies where the team stays, for example. And not for five minutes, either. For a long period of time. The whole day. And not just any day. Every day the team is there.

Now, we’re not suggesting that you stalk Tom Brady – or anyone else, for that matter – but you get the point. You have the power to put yourself in the right place at the right time. You set goals for the long term and stay consistent. This massively increases your chances of success, like taking a 90-side die and reducing it to 60 sides.

Is consistency enough to be lucky?

The power of consistency cannot be disputed. All those who are in the fitness and sport business understand that consistency is the key to your fitness goals

Mini-improvements are made by daily exercise, for example. Each short-term goal helps you to gain traction over a period of time toward your goal.

When you find yourself in the right place at the right time, you’re ready. Because you have maintained consistency, and done the right things to get you where you need to be.

Like Michael Jordan said, “I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don’t do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.”

What is consistency in business?

It’s the same in business. The power of consistency in business is only realized if you do the right things as a business owner. You must be passionate, use your imagination, be curious, open to experience – and persevere to build momentum toward ‘getting lucky’.

Here are a few of the things that the ‘luckiest’ business owners I know do consistently, every day:

  • Show up every day – in the right frame of mind, motivated and focused

  • Plan every day – prioritizing tasks and allotting time to complete everything they must

  • Take breaks every day – to refuel the body and the mind

  • Learn every day – act and fail fast to succeed by learning from mistakes

  • Network every day – make time to reach out to people and customers

  • Give more every day – generosity of advice builds trust and helps to build relationships

Unlock the benefits of consistency in business

As a business owner, the way to grow your business is to do more of what your customers expect. Create accountability in your team for the products and services you provide. Take time to dissect if you are doing all you should and that what you are doing is achieving the results you desire.

To know that what you are doing is right, apply the following strategy to everything you do:

  • Plan

  • Execute

  • Reflect

  • Revise

  • Repeat

Let’s leave the last word to Johnny Carson, who declared himself to be one of the lucky people in the world having found something he always wanted to do and enjoying every single minute of it. He also said:

‘Talent alone won’t make you a success. Neither will being in the right place at the right time unless you are ready. The most important question is, Are you ready?’

Why is it important to be consistent? In short, because it will attract the luck you want and need to grow your business – you’ll be ready.
